Algeria is the largest country in Africa, but above all, it is the most diverse. From the Mediterranean Sea to the Sahara, passing through the Djurdjura mountains and the high plateaus of the Aurès, a photo tour in Algeria is an adventure across landscapes as varied as they are magical. From the temperate climates of the north to the extreme regions of the south, Algeria offers a range that landscape photographers have yet to fully explore.

It is often said that in Algeria, you can swim in the Mediterranean Sea in the morning, ski at noon in a Djurdjura resort, and walk barefoot on the sands of the Sahara by the end of the day. This is no myth—we have done it ourselves!

In Algeria, even the Sahara is diverse. Some deserts lie below sea level, hosting rich wildlife including small mammals (fennecs, jerboas, lizards…) and insects, while others, such as the Tassili n’Ajjer plateau, rise up to 2,000 meters in altitude. This diversity is what inspired us to create a photo trip to Algeria.

In 2025, the Tassili n’Ajjer Cultural Park, in the Algerian Sahara, inspired NASA scientists, who named a region on the planet Mars after it. This is where we take you—to experience, admire, and photograph landscapes from another world!

Our photo tour in Algeria takes you between sand dunes, forests of monoliths, and canyons, at the edge of a little-known desert. These dramatic landscapes are a call to creativity, and our photography guides will be there to help you make the most of this opportunity.

The luckiest participants may even have the privilege of photographing African wild donkeys, Barbary sheep, or many other species living in the park.

Our photo tour in the Sahara is a workshop. During the trip, you will be guided by a landscape photographer who will not only provide field knowledge and the best photography spots, but also help you with technical and artistic aspects.

We speak multiple languages

We are fortunate to have guides who speak English, French, German, and Spanish. Importantly for Algeria, one of our guides also speaks local languages (Algerian, Berber, and Arabic). We act as a bridge between photographers and local communities!

The nature of the Sahara

When arriving in the Sahara, the first impression is often that nothing can survive here! Silence, emptiness—the place feels hostile. Yet, the world’s largest desert reveals itself only to those who know how to observe, listen, and be patient. Behind its vast sandy expanses lies a surprising diversity of landscapes and ecosystems.

The Sahara is far more than just an ocean of dunes. It features rocky plateaus, mountains, oases, and even rivers winding through the desert. The region’s climate has changed over millennia. Where dunes now stretch below sea level, traces of an ancient inland sea remain. Where towering monoliths stand like giants in a barren landscape, rivers, lakes, and lush vegetation once supported large herbivores. The Sahara tells stories of climate change and species adaptation, and we want to share these stories with you.

The Tuareg and portrait photography

The Tuareg are the inhabitants of the southern Sahara. For thousands of years, they have lived in the desert, adapting to extreme environments. Once nomadic, they still nurture a deep connection with nature and vast open spaces.

During our photo tour in the Sahara, we also offer portrait photography workshops, encouraging photographers to observe and take advantage of unique opportunities. The life of a Tuareg is fascinating—and telling their story through photography is just as compelling.
