Scottish nature

Scottish nature is one of the most preserved in Europe. The difficulty of access and the rugged terrain of the Highlands have protected this part of the country from industrial development. Nature here is free and wild. You may encounter a red deer on the moor, a European otter along the coast, or a mountain hare in the highlands. The diversity of wildlife, flora and landscapes makes it a prime destination for nature photographers.

Scottish landscapes have been shaped by glaciers and polished by winds and rivers. Ecosystems follow one another: alpine environments in the mountains, wind-swept coasts, lochs reflecting the peaks, peat moorlands—open and sometimes mysterious.
In autumn, the red deer rut echoing through the mountains adds drama to dark landscapes filled with heavy, threatening clouds.

Photographing red deer in Scotland

One of the stories we love to tell is that of the Scottish island red deer. On an island on the edge of Scotland’s western fringe, where Europe meets the vastness of the North Atlantic, lives a unique population of deer. This population inhabits poor, peat-rich moorland and a coastline exposed to wind and waves. To survive, these deer have had to adapt and evolve.

Scottish islands are also a paradise for many species of seabirds and land birds, as well as for the famous European otter, which has found one of its most important refuges here.
